With leg-testing climbs, a route made famous by the London 2012 Olympics, a finishing straight on The Mall in front of Buckingham Palace, and 24,999 other contestants this will no doubt prove to be a spectacular event.
Philip is riding to raise money for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research in memory of a friend he lost to leukaemia last year. He is using the Just Giving service and his website is www.justgiving.com/philip-chandler2.
To bring a small financial planning angle to this story, don’t forget that any UK taxpayer can complete a Gift Aid declaration which will allow the charity to reclaim the basic rate tax paid on a donation. A higher or additional rate taxpayer can also reclaim the extra tax from HMRC.
We feel sure you will join us in wishing Philip the very best in his endeavours. He says everyone is welcome to come and watch him ‘wobble over the finishing line…probably sometime around midnight!’
Update – 17th June 2015
Unfortunately, due to injury, Philip has had to pull out of this event, but the organisers are allowing him to carry his place over to next year. So we expect to see him cross the line in August 2016.
